Three Point Shooting Dooms Lady Rams

NEW ORLEANS, Louis—The University of Mobile fell out of 2nd place in the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference standings by dropping a 90-69 decision at #16 Loyola University.

In the first half of action, the Lady Wolfpack went 3-3 from downtown to open with a quick 14-7 lead. But, the Lady Rams responded and reeled off a 21-12 run to take a tenuous 28-26 lead with 5 minutes remaining on Danielle Goodly’s 11th point of the half.

Loyola would not go away and hit back-to-back-to-back 3-pointers to go up 35-28, before entering the break with a 41-35 edge. Loyola hit 6-of-11 from deep in the half, compared to 2-of-11 for the Lady Rams. Goodly had 13 points, Angela Bounds went for 8 points and 7 boards, and Sherri McIntosh picked up 6 points and 10 rebounds in the half.

The second half was a different story for Mobile, and the same for the Lady Wolfpack. Loyola continued knocking down the 3’s, but this half, the dynamic twin sister combo took over.

Trenell and Trenese combined for 17 of the Lady Wolfpack’s first 24 points in the final frame, as Loyola jumped ahead 65-49 with 8:09 remaining. From there, Loyola went back to the 3-pointer, as their 5th three ball of the half put Mobile down 21 at 76-55.

Goodly paced the Lady Rams with 17 points, Bounds got a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds, Lakeela Lowe added 10 points off the bench, and McIntosh finished with 9 points and 17 boards.

Trenell Smith led Loyola with 23 points on 9-of-16 shooting, while Trenese Smith came in with 17 points, 15 of which came in the 2nd half.

Mobile falls to 13-12 and 9-4 in conference, while Loyola improves to 20-4 overall and 13-0 in GCAC action. The Lady Rams next play at SUNO Saturday, Feb. 16th at 5:00 pm.
