Lady Rams Beat SUNO With Big First Half
NEW ORLEANS, Louis-- The University of Mobile women’s basketball team picked up a Gulf Coast Athletic Conference victory by using a big first half to take down Southern University at New Orleans 69-53 Saturday evening.
The first half started a little sluggish, with the two teams locked in a 9-9 tie 9 minutes into the period. But, the Lady Rams finally started finding some offense, and went on a quick 7-0 spurt thanks to back-to-back buckets from Sherri McIntosh and a 3-ball from Danielle Goodly.
Mobile, went on to push that 7-0 run, to a 30-14 run to enter the break up 39-23. The Lady Rams out-shot the Lady Knights 54% to 32% in the opening half and got a 15 point, 7 rebound, 3 block performance from McIntosh to build the lead.
In the second half, SUNO picked it up to shoot 50%, but the Lady Rams held on; never letting the Lady Knights cut the lead to single-digits. The closest SUNO got, was 12 points.
McIntosh finished with 19 points and 15 rebounds, while Angela Bounds recorded her second-straight double-double with a 10 point, 10 rebound performance. Danielle Goodly added 13 points and 4 steals for Mobile. Disha Leonard led the home team with 16 points and 8 rebounds.
Mobile moves to 14-12 overall and 10-4 in GCAC action. The Lady Rams next play at home Thursday, February versus Tougaloo at 5:30 pm.
