Lady Rams Cruise Versus Tougaloo
MOBILE, Ala—The University of Mobile women’s basketball team took care of business heading into Saturday’s showdown for 2nd place in the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference by defeating conference foe Tougaloo 73-59 Thursday evening.
The game got off to a slow start, as the Lady Rams shut out the visitors through the first 4:20 of the game and went on to a 6-4 lead at the 14:48 mark. Then, the Lady Rams brought in Crystal Hutchinson off the bench and her 8 points and 3 steals in the half helped ignite a 16-4 surge that gave Mobile a 22-8 advantage with 8:27 left in the half.
Danielle Goodly added 10 points in the period and the Lady Rams’ defense forced 16 turnovers and held the Lady Bulldogs to 31% shooting from the field as Mobile built a 32-22 lead heading into the break.
In the second half, Mobile made sure there would not be a comeback, by shooting 59% from the floor to ice the game.
Goodly finished with 17 points and 4 assists, Hutchinson added 16 points, Sherri McIntosh recorded a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds and Angela Bounds added 10 points for the Lady Rams. Goodly’s 4 assists move her into 10th place on the all-time assists list at the University of Mobile.
Erica McElroy led the visitors with 23 points and 14 rebounds.
The Lady Rams’ (15-12, 11-4) next game is Saturday, February 23 at home against Xavier University at 5:00 pm. |
