Lady Rams fall to Dillard

NEW ORLEANS, Louis-- The University of Mobile Lady Rams went into Thurday's game at Dillard looking to pick up their 20th win of the season, but fell 71-63.

Mobile led 33-31 at the half and built up a 49-41 leaed at the 11:56 mark when Emmerentia Ledwaba rebounded a missed free throw and put it in for the deuce. Unfortunately for the Lady Rams, things went downhill from there and Dillard went on a 19-4 run over the next 9:31 to reverse their fortunes and put Mobile in a 60-53 hole.

Rheonda Leary broke the drought for Mobile with a pair of free throws at the 2:16 mark to pull within 5 at 60-55, but that's as close as the Lady Rams would get. Dillard continued to hit their free throws down the stretch and they built up a 70-60 lead with 12 seconds remaining, before Abby Campbell hit a late 3.

Free throws and turnovers proved to be a downfall for Mobile as they hit only 2-of-8 from the charity stripe compared to 13-of-17 by Dillard in the second half. Mobile also finished with 30 turnovers in the ball game.

Leary was the only Lady Ram in double-figures with 18 points. Sherri McIntosh just missed a double-double with 9 points and 9 rebounds, while Ledwaba finished with 8 points and 9 rebounds.

The first half was close throughout with the Lady Rams grabbing the largest lead of the half at the 2:40 mark when Ashley Prestenbach drilled a deep 3 on her first possession in the ball game. The Lady Blue Devils answered right back when Crystal Marcial hit her 4th three-pointer of the frame and they tied the score. Angela Bounds picked the Lady Devils' pockets and went coast-to-coast for a layup late to give Mobile the lead heading into the break.

Rheonda Leary and Sherri McIntosh have been a force in the paint for the Lady Rams, combining for 13 points and 16 rebounds on 6-of-12 shooting. Mobile shot 39% from the floor compared to a 32% effort from Dillard. Rebounds and turnovers are basically even (Mobile 15 turnovers and 25 rebounds, Dillard 13 turnovers and 22 rebounds).

Mobile falls to 19-10 overall and 11-6 in GCAC play.
