Lady Rams Take Down Gold Nuggets

MOBILE, Ala—With only 3 games remaining in the regular season, the University of Mobile women’s basketball team had a chance to make a move in the GCAC standings, and they did just that by picking up a 75-65 win over 20-7 Xavier University.

The win pulls Mobile into a tie for 2nd place with Xavier in the GCAC standings.

The first half saw Xavier use an 11-0 run to take a 11-4 lead, before the Lady Rams would bounce back. Two three-point plays by Crystal Hutchinson powered a 15-6 run by the Lady Rams to give Mobile a 19-17 lead with 8:50 remaining in the opening period.

The two teams went back-and-forth from there as Mobile went to the locker room with a 39-35 edge. The Lady Rams dominated inside in the period as Sherri McIntosh finished with 13 points and 11 rebounds, while Crystal Hutchinson added 10 points and 6 boards in the paint.

The second half of action was all about free throw shooting, as Mobile knocked down 20-24 freebies versus an 8-of-14 effort from the stripe by the visitors. Senior Angela Bounds hit 6-of-6 from the line and poured in 12 second-half points, while McIntosh hit 8-of-10 from the line.

McIntosh finished with a game-high 23 points and 14 rebounds, Bounds and Danielle Goodly added 14 points apiece, and Hutchinson finished with 12 points for the Lady Rams.

Mobile moves to 16-12 overall, while Xavier falls to 22-6 overall. Both teams are 12-4 in GCAC action.
