Lady Rams season ends in GCAC quarterfinals

NEW ORLEANS, LA-- The University of Mobile women's basketball team's season came to an end Friday night at Loyola University with a 75-63 defeat at the hands of the Lady Wolfpack.

The Lady Rams dropped a regular season match up at Loyola when they committed 39 turnovers, and the same thing came back to haunt the team today in the GCAC tournament. Loyola's defense and sloppy play by Mobile's offense forced 34 Mobile turnovers, compared to only 18 points.

That and the Lady Wolfpack's Smith sisters proved too much to overcome. GCAC Player of the Year Trenese Smith finished with 21 points, including 14 in the first-half which saw Loyola build a 7-point lead. Her sister, Trenell Smith finished with a game-high 26 points on 10-15 shooting from the floor. They went a combined 6-of-12 from behind the 3-point line to help squelch any Mobile rally attempts.

Mobile was able to pull within 2 at 53-51, but could not close the gap completely and ended up trailing the entire period.

The Lady Rams were led by Rheonda Leary with 17 points, Angela Bounds with 10 and Danielle Goodly posted a double-double with 10 points and 12 boards.
