Cole and leary sign with UM
Mobile, Ala. – University of Mobile
women's basketball coach Martha Gore-Algernon signs teammates
Sanora Cole and Rheonda Leary of Scotlandville Magnet High
School in Baton Rouge, La.

Cole, a 5-10 forward, averaged 20.6 points,
15.2 rebounds, 9.5 steals, 2.2 blocks, and 5 assists per game
this past season. She was named to the First Team
All-State and All-Metro Team; plus, she was named the District
8-3A Most Valuable Player and was a McDonalds All-American
Nominee.
"She's very athletic and talented," Gore-Algernon said. "She
will contribute next year."
"I look forward to making a
difference on the team," Cole said. "I am going to work
hard on and off the court."
Rheonda Leary, a
6-0 center, averaged 11.5 points, 12.4 rebounds, 4.3 steals, and
4.8 blocks per game this past season. She was named to the
District 8-3A Second Team and is also a Scholar-Athlete and
Honor Student at Scotlandville.
"She's smart, a good athlete with good
skills, and has a soft touch around the basket," said
Gore-Algernon.
"I thank God for giving me this opportunity
to play basketball next year," said Leary. " I chose UM
because it has a small community atmosphere and great coaches."
"UM's coaches made them both feel very welcome. I like
that they looked at the student-athlete's grades as the most
important aspect. Their career paths are very important to
me and I believe they will be comfortable with the education
there," Scotlandville's coach LaToshia Clay said. "These
girls helped rebuild the program here. We went from a 4-20
record the year before they were freshman and this past year we
were ranked second in the state and finished with a 28-2
record."
