Women’s
basketball rounds out recruiting with five new signees
MOBILE,
Ala. -- The University of Mobile women’s basketball program rounded
out their 2004 recruiting by signing five new players head coach
Martha Gore-Algernon announced on Tuesday morning.
With
only six players returning next year from last season’s roster, each
of the seven new recruits are likely to fight for playing time right
away.
“Each
player can contribute right away,” Gore-Algernon said of her recruits. “Next
year will definitely be a new look for us and we are looking very forward
to getting started.”
In addition
to Laura Davis and Sandra Kostandinovic, who signed last month, the
Rams received commitments from five new players on Tuesday.
Topping
the list was Kelli Manning a 6-1 post transfer from Campbell University. Manning,
a graduate of Faith Academy, will be a welcome addition to Mobile.
“Kelli
will definitely help us next season in the post,” Gore-Algernon said. “She
is a great talent and will definitely fit in.”
With
just two guards that saw any action last season returning to the 2004-05
roster, coach Gore-Algernon has filled her needs by signing three guards.
Lakita
Ford, a 5-7 guard from Westlake High School in Atlanta Ga., Andy Anger,
a 5-8 guard from Mandeville High School in Mandeville, La., and Courtney
Craft, a 5-7 guard from Hancock High School in Bay St. Louis, Miss.,
will all battle for playing time next season.
Finally,
Gore-Algernon signed Christyl Mitchell, a 5-10 forward from West Orange
High School in Wintergarden, Fla., to help in the front court.
The Rams
finished the 2003-04 season with a 16-14 record.
