Lady Rams Topple Ranked Team

MOBILE, Ala-- The University of Mobile women's basketball team opened the 2007-08 season with 3 straight games against Top-25 foes, and the third time was a charm for the Lady Rams as they knocked off #23 Auburn-Montgomery 60-58 Wednesday night.

Mobile took control of the game in the opening half, never trailing after a pair of Sherri McIntosh free throws erased a 6-4 deficit 2:44 into the action. From there, the Lady Rams got 8 points apiece from McIntosh and Danielle Goodly, and 6 points and 2 steals from Anna Maddox to build a 37-29 lead heading into the break.

The Lady Senators finally took a lead 5:30 into the 2nd frame when a bucket from Destiny Dulin put her team up 42-41. But, the Lady Rams answered with a 10-2 run, sparked by 6 points from Angela Bounds.

Mobile was able to hold that 51-44 lead until the 2:32 mark when a Lady Senators deuce tied things up at 53-53. From there, fans at Pharr Gymnasium saw a thrilling, back-and-forth finish.

The visitors took a quick 55-53 lead, but McIntosh answered on the next trip down the floor with a turn around jumper for Mobile. Then, AUM turned a Mobile turnover into a 57-56 lead with 40 seconds left. That's when the Lady Rams turned to lone senior Angela Bounds.

At the :34 mark, Bounds drained a short baseline jumper to retake the lead. AUM tied things up, going 1-for-2 at the charity stripe with only 17 seconds remaining. Fans at the gym probably got a case of deja vu, as Bounds raced down the court again and knocked down the game-winner from the practically the same spot, with 11 ticks left on the clock.

Goodly paced Mobile with 14 points, while Bounds, McIntosh, and Maddox all chipped in 10 points apiece. Mobile (1-2) next plays at Alabama State Saturday, November 10th at 6:00 pm.
