Lady Rams Fall In Overtime to NCAA Foe
PENSACOLA, Fla--- The young University of Mobile women’s basketball team played another tough team and fell to NCAA Div II University of West Florida 74-70 in overtime Tuesday evening.
The Lady Rams controlled the first half early after jumping out to a 10-4 lead, but the Lady Argos got their first lead of the half at the 3:20 mark when they went up 25-23. The teams battled back-and-forth from there until a buzzer-beating 3-pointer gave West Florida a 34-31 lead heading into the break. Danielle Goodly and Angela Bounds led the Lady Rams with 8 points apiece in the half.
In the second half, the Lady Rams built a 5-point lead when Anna Maddox hit a jumper and Goodly converted a 3-point play. Mobile controlled the paint early in the half with 4 blocks, 3 by Sherri McIntosh, but the Lady Argos used the long ball to hang around, drilling four 3’s in the half.
West Florida took that 5-point lead away from the visiting Rams at the 6:00 mark on a pair of free throws. Then, the Lady Argos stretched it to 61-55 at the 4:01 mark on two more free throws. The home team took a 66-63 lead with 50 seconds remaining, but Goodly answered the bell for the Lady Rams and sent the game to overtime with a 3-pointer at the 38-second mark.
Mobile took the first lead in overtime when Goodly hit a layup at the 2:44 mark, but the Lady Argos took a 70-68 lead a minute later and held on until the end.
Goodly led Mobile with 19 points and 7 steals, while Sherri McIntosh and Crystal Hutchinson added 12 points apiece. Bounds rounded out the double-digit scorers with 11 points. Jenee Washington led the team in rebounding with 12 boards. |
