Lady Rams win big over Blue Mountain College, 106-81
MOBILE, Ala. -- Wednesday night marked the first time
all season that the Lady Rams reached triple digits in a game. The
team traveled to Blue Mountain, Mississippi to take on the Toppers
of Blue Mountain College. The Rams came out firing, outscoring BMC
15-4 in the first 4 minutes. The first half was dominated by the performance
of Crystal Coston who scored 21 points and had 9 rebounds. At halftime
the Lady Rams led 64-33.
The second half was a different story. The Toppers made
a 22-9 run for the first 6 minutes of the second half. Kelly Yates,
20 points, scored 12 in the second half. UM, also, fell into foul trouble
early and allowed BMC to play the final 13 minutes in double bonus.
Blue Mountain fought hard and brought the score to within
ten points, but that was as close as they would get. At the end of
the night, it was UM's 30 point lead at half time that saved
the
game.
"They outplayed
us
in
the second
half,"
remarked assistant coach Michael Berry, "they just had a 30 point hole
they had to get out of before they could win."
Led by Crystal Coston, 27 points and 19 rebounds, five
players scored in double figures. Kinga Rybarczyk and Laquita Williams
both had 12 points, followed by Rheonda Leary and Sandra Kostandinovic
who had 11 points a piece. Leading scorers for Blue Mountain were Kelly
Yates with 20 points, and Lauren Ford who added 16.
The Lady Rams record now stands at 6-1. They will next
be in action in the Port City Classic at Spring Hill College on December
12-13. They will face Florida Memorial College on Monday at 6 p.m.
and Wilberforce College on Tuesday at 2 p.m.
