Lady Rams Fall to Miles in Sloppy Game
FAIRFIELD, Ala-- The University of Mobile women's basketball team fell 57-52 at NCAA Div II Miles College Tuesday evening.
In a low-scoring game which featured many turnovers and fouls, the Miles Golden Bears controlled the second-half to drop the Lady Rams to 3-7 on the season.
Mobile got off to a hot start, building a 12-5 lead at the 10:00 mark thanks to 10 points in the paint, including four apiece from Sherri McIntosh and Crystal Hutchinson. But, the lead was short-lived as Miles went on a 10-0 run behind a pair of 3's from Cyntonia Jones to take a 15-12 lead at the 5:18 mark.
The Lady Rams kept battling back and pounded the ball inside to force their way to the charity stripe. They scored their final 8 points of the half from the free throw line and went into the break with a tenuous 23-22 lead. It was a half that saw both teams shoot under 26% and turn the ball over 16 teams apiece.
In the second period, the home team took their first second-half lead at the 18:37 mark and never trailed. Miles built a 9-point cushion at the 12:04 mark for their largest lead of the contest, but the Lady Rams fought back to tie things up, when a pair of Laura Jones free throws knotted the game at 39-39 with 8:27 left to play.
Again, the home team surged back ahead, using an 8-2 run over the next 3 minutes to build enough of a cushion to hold on for the win.
Crystal Hutchinson led the Lady Rams in points and rebounds as she turned in a 13 point, 12 rebound effort. Sherri McIntosh added 8 points and 7 rebounds, while Angela Bounds and Anna Maddox chipped in 7 points apiece. Mobile shot 27.6% from the floor in the game, compared to 32.8% for the home team.
