Mobile Women Hold Off Lady Vikings

ROME, Ga-- The University of Mobile women's basketball team built a double-digit lead in the first half at Berry College Sunday afternoon and then held on to take down the Lady Vikings 72-64 in Mobile's final tune-up before the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference slate begins January 3rd.

The Lady Rams went inside early in the game and built a 13-4 lead at the 16:39 mark thanks to 6 points from Sherri McIntosh. Berry (10-3) answered with a 15-5 spurt over the next 5 minutes to take their first and only lead of the game. But, it was short-lived as Mobile answered that run with a 17-5 run of its own and built an 11 point lead at the 4:35 mark on Crystal Hutchinson's 11th point of the period.

Solid defense and continued hot shooting sent Mobile into the locker rooms with a 46-32 edge. The Lady Rams shot 56% from the floor and got double-digit efforts in the opening half from Hutchinson (13) and Angela Bounds (10).

Danielle Goodly opened the final frame with a 3-pointer that gave Mobile its largest lead of the contest at 49-32. The Lady Vikings fought back by getting to the charity stripe and trimmed the lead to 3 at the 7:06 mark. Mobile held on and pulled away at the end thanks to an 11-of-14 effort from the free throw line.

Mobile improves to 4-7 on the season and next plays January 3rd at 5:30 pm at William Carey University. Bounds finished with 20 points, Sherri McIntosh added 13, and Goodly chipped in with 15 points. Hutchinson finished with 13 points and 9 rebounds.
