MOBILE, Ala—The University of Mobile women’s soccer program announced the signing of four more players for the 2009 season. The Lady Rams inked Huntsville natives Kassie and Kelsie Ruff, Houston, Texas native Mary Lippa and Phoenix College transfer Ashley Schultejann.
Kassie is transferring from Shelton State Community College after the school discontinued its soccer program, while her sister Kelsie is an incoming freshman. Both are expected to be immediate contributors at both midfield and forward spots.
“We expect both to be in the hunt for starting positions or at least come off the bench and serve a purpose,” Mobile Head Coach Brian Person said. “They are being counted on for big performances.”
Lippa comes to Mobile from Houston and helped her high school team finish 2nd in the State Playoffs. Her skill-set should help her contribute from the get-go.
“Mary is a very athletic, hard-working, hard-nosed individual who will help us at midfield or forward right away,” Person said.
Rounding out the latest crop of incoming players is Schultejann. She comes from Phoenix College, which produced current Lady Rams Aislinn Finfrock and Danielle Byrd.
“She is a tall defender that can also play central midfield,” Person said. “We are looking for very big things from her and expect her tom come in and compete for a starting position right away.”
Person is excited about how all of the young ladies will fit in on and off the field in the coming seasons.
“They all fit the mission of the University of Mobile with their spiritual backgrounds, and we are really excited about that,” Person said.
