Lady Rams roll to opening conference victory at Loyola
NEW ORLEANS, La-- The University of Mobile Lady Rams soccer squad opened conference play with a dominating 9-0 victory over Loyola Friday night.
Now 3-2 on the season, Mobile stayed on the offensive all game, out shooting the Wolfpack 36-0 and finishing with 17 shots on goal. The Lady Rams have pitched shutouts in all 3 victories this season (4-0, 3-0, 9-0).
Freshman forward Terri McCreadie led the way for Mobile, scoring 3 goals, all in the second half of the match. McCreadie has 7 goals on the 2006 campaign, with 2 apiece coming in the other two Mobile victories.
Senior Kelly Baltieri opened the scoring at the 12 minute mark when she gathered a loose ball in the box and deposited the ball in the upper corner. 2 minutes later, Camilla Hovden added Mobile's second goal when she beat the defense down the field thanks to a terrific pass over the top of the defenders from Lauren Thomson.
The Lady Rams added 2 more before halftime when Anna Ellingsen received the ball from Baltieri and from wide put the ball in the far corner to beat the Wolfpack keeper. At the 25:37 mark, Rose Clemenson outran Loyola down the far-sideline and followed suite by shooting for the far corner, and succeeding.
McCreadie opened the 2nd half with the first two goals. Her first came about 10 yards away when she gathered in a pass from Hovden and struck it past the goalie. Three minutes later at the 62 minute mark, she ran through the Wolfpack defense and beat the goalie one-on-one.
Dernelle Mascall added a goal when she deflected a corner from Ellingsen into the back of the net. McCreadie and Hovden finished out the scoring with their final goals, each in the 69th minute.
