UM Women's Soccer Falls To Spring Hill

MOBILE, Ala— The University of Mobile women's soccer team was looking for a fresh start with Gulf Coast Athletic Conference play beginning, instead the Spring Hill College Lady Badgers came across town and shocked Mobile.

The Lady Rams, who fall to 1-8 (0-1), had won 8 of the last 9 meetings with the cross-town rivals, and looked like they would keep history intact, when Lauren Thomson sent a deep pass to Anna Ellingsen, who then knocked it inside the far post at the 17:09 mark of the 1st half.

It was a half that Mobile seemingly dominated, out-shooting the Lady Badgers, 11-to-4, but Spring Hill got the break they needed with 3:29 left to play in the opening period.

That's when the Lady Badgers got a free-kick about 10 feet outside the penalty box. From there, instead of firing at the goal, Sarah Engels received the free kick just outside the box and fed Lynsey Winkler for a point-blank goal.

Riding that momentum into the 2nd frame, Spring Hill scored two goals in the span of 37 seconds, beginning at the 37:57 mark. That's when Megan Wientge headed home a corner from Engels, only to be followed seconds later by an unassisted goal from Kasey Pruett, who beat Susanne Klungtveit from deep with a high shot, just under the top post.

Down 3-1, the Lady Rams didn't quit, instead that fought right back and made a game of it, when Anna Maddox knocked in a corner from Ellingsen at the 26:44 mark. The game remained 3-2 for 10 minutes, until Jennifer Huber scored on another free kick. Pruett capped the scoring with her 2nd goal of the evening on a breakaway at the 1:37 mark.

Mobile travels to LSU-Shreveport for their 2nd GCAC game of the season, Saturday, September 22nd at 1:00 pm.
