SAINT FRANCIS OF INDIANA
DAMPENS THE RAMS SPIRITS
MOBILE, Ala. – The University of Mobile slipped to
3-8 on the season following a 4-2 loss at the hands of the University of
Saint Francis Cougars (6-8) on a wet and cool October evening. Six saves
by All-American Cougar, Natalie Wiegmann, staved off a late Rams attack
that leaves UM looking towards next week’s game against the University of
North Alabama to end their six game losing streak.
Saint Francis got on the board in the 13th
minute with a goal by Heather Waddle. Rams keeper Sarah Cabannis was
unable to control a corner kick played in by Erin Zgonc. The loose ball
Waddle punched through to put Saint Francis up 1-0.
In the 21st minute Saint Francis
midfielder Emily Lambros, rifled a shot from the right corner of the top
of the 18 yard box to put the Cougars up 2-0.
Not to go quietly into the half, the Rams fought back
as Giselle Thomas centered a ball into the six yard box which Kelly
Baltieri blasted into the net to bring the Rams to within one.
Saint Francis’s senior forward Megan McKee got things
going quickly in the second half as she picked apart the Rams defense and
scored in the 50th minute to put the Cougars up 3-1.
While UM’s Rose Clemenson converted on a great
give-and-go from Kelly Baltieri to once again bring the Rams to within one
it was not enough as Saint Francis would score in the 87th
minute to seal the win.
