Lady Rams take down top GCAC team

MOBILE, Ala-- The University of Mobile women's soccer team needed a win and some goals heading into Thursday's home match versus Louisiana State University-Shreveport; they only accomplished one goal.

Thankfully, for the Rams' sake it was the one that mattered most. They picked up a much-needed "W" by taking down LSU-S 1-0 at the Jungle. Heading into the match, Mobile was 4-2 in GCAC play, while the Pilots sat at the top of the standings with a perfect conference mark, and only one loss overall.

The two teams played to a scoreless tie at halftime with neither team mounting much of a threat. The Lady Rams had only 3 shots on goal in the first period, while the Lady Pilots had only 1. Mobile's Terri McCreadie looked like she was going to break the scoring draught in the first half, but her shot for the far corner bounced off the goal-post in the 35th minute.

The second half wasn't much better, as far as offense goes. Mobile led in 2nd half shots on goal, 4-2. One of those, was the decisive strike that inched the Lady Rams closer to the top of the conference standings. At the 59 minute mark, Dernelle Mascall took a feed from Sunniva Haaland and let loose a blast from the corner of the box that found the far corner of the net for the 1-0 edge.

Mobile returns to action Saturday at the Jungle versus Covenant College. The game starts at 7:00.
