Lady Rams Fall At Home
MOBILE, Ala— Using a depleted lineup with no subs in a game that meant nothing in the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference standings, the University of Mobile women's soccer team dropped a 1-0 game to visiting Belhaven College.
The visitors scored the game-winner just 1:06 into the action when Catherine Dunst found a loose ball in the box off a corner kick and punched it home for the decisive goal. Belhaven out shot Mobile 14-8 in the game, but Mobile goalkeeper Anna Maddox was up to the task the rest of the way, finishing with 7 saves in the loss.
Mobile had very few scoring opportunities, a golden chance went by the wayside early in the final period when Emma Murphy beat the Belhaven Keeper to a loose ball at the edge of the 18-yard box. Murphy took a shot at the empty net, but a trailing Lady Blazer knocked the ball out of bounds to thwart the attack.
Mobile (6-7-4, 3-3-2) next plays in the GCAC Tournament Nov. 13-14 in Hattiesburg, MS as the No. 2 seed. The Lady Rams will get a chance for revenge as Belhaven will be their opening-round opponent Thursday. All games are at William Carey University. |
