Rams Advance In Region XIII
Tournament
MOBILE, Ala. – Led by Rose Clemenson’s two goals on
the night and Sarah Cabaniss’ stellar play in the goal, the women’s soccer
team (8-9) defeated Spring Hill College (9-12) in first round action of
the Region 13 Tournament. With the win, the Rams now advance to the region
semi-finals against AUM to be played on Friday, Nov. 14, at 11 a.m. in
Montgomery, Ala.
Winning the ball on a 50/50 Kirsten Turner drove
towards the end line. Beating her defender she served the ball to Rose
Clemenson who got a step on her defender and fired a shot to put UM up 1-0
in the 20th minute.
Spring Hill got the equalizer in the 28th
minute as a corner played in by Ashley Clarkin was headed in by Kristie
Murphy.
Spring Hill continued to press however it was four
big saves by senior goalkeeper, Sarah Cabaniss that kept the Badgers at
bay.
“Sarah came up with some big saves and that’s the
difference in the game,” Coach Uwe Tittl said. “Her getting two or three
big saves meant the difference.”
Clemenson, who leads the Rams with 35 points (16
goals, 3 assists), scored the game-winner in the 50th minute as
she headed in a corner played in by Allison Miller.
“Rose has been doing it for us all season long,”
Coach Tittl said. “I tip my hat off to Spring Hill’s keeper because we had
three or four great chances to score goals and she came up big. She’s an
All-American keeper and she sure showed it tonight.”
