Lady Rams' Season Comes To An End

HATTIESBURG, Miss—The University of Mobile women’s soccer team saw their season come to an end in the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Tournament semifinals Thursday in the form of a 1-0 loss to Belhaven College.

The teams battled on a sloppy field after rain and an earlier game tore it up, and the first-half play matched that description with only 5 shots combined as teams struggled to find their footing.

The Lady Rams had the first scoring chance in the half when Terri McCreadie took a shot in the 18-yard box just 4 minutes in, but Belhaven goalkeeper Kristin Parson made the diving save to knock it wide. Then, the Lady Blazers capitalized on a chance of their own 13:55 in, when Sarah Benson skipped a goal into the back of the net off a pass from Dana Sullivan.

The second half saw Mobile with 7 more shots, but none could find the back of the net. The best chance came 18 minutes in, when a Belhaven defender ran into and knocked down the Blazers’ keeper. Aislinn Finfrock got to the ball in the box, but her shot was blocked by a Belhaven defender.

A late shot by Emma Murphy was thwarted on a nice leaping stop by Parson as well. Mobile’s season comes to an end at 6-8-4, while Belhaven advances to play William Carey in the title game Friday at 6 pm.
