UM Women Drop Opener to Brescia University
MOBILE, Ala. – The University of Mobile women’s
soccer team dropped the opening game of the season to Brescia University,
3-1, Friday afternoon at Spring Hill College.
After playing a scoreless game for nearly the entire
first half, Brescia broke through in the 39th minute when
freshman Janelle Brown found Tricia Harrison streaking along the right
side. Harrison took off down the sideline and after making a break
towards the goal beat the UM goalkeeper, Sara Cabaniss, with a ground shot
into the left side of the net putting the Bearcats ahead 1-0.
Trailing by the same score at halftime, the Rams came
out shooting in the second half. Unable to connect on a few early
chances, the Rams fell behind 2-0 in the 57th minute when
Brescia freshman Kenisha Warren scored off a deflected shot. After taking
the ball just inside the 18-yard box, Warren fired the ball high and just
out of the reach of UM goalkeeper Sara Cabaniss. Warren would later add
another goal giving the Bearcats a 3-0 lead.
With just two minutes remaining in the contest, the
Rams finally put a goal on the board when junior K.C. Morgan netted one
off an assist from freshman Rose Clemensen. Clemensen, a native of
Stouvring, Denmark, dribbled down the right sideline and crossed a pass to
Morgan who was left all alone. Morgan controlled the ball and drove the
shot past a diving Brescia goalkeeper.
Mobile falls to 0-1 on the season.
