UM Defeats Huntingdon College 7-2

Bay Minnette, Ala. – Freshmen Jemma Conner and Rose Clemensen each recorded hat-tricks as the University of Mobile (3-2) cruised to a 7-2 win over Huntingdon College Tuesday night at Baldwin County High School.

“We played really well tonight,” said Rams head coach Uwe Tittl.  “We scored two goals in the first-half but should have scored more.  We came out flat in the second-half and they were able to tie the game up.  After that, we got it together both physically and mentally.”

The first goal of the match came from Clemensen who received the ball from about 25 yards out and chipped a shot just over the outstretched arms of Huntingdon goalkeeper Jenny Wade.  Less than a minute later, Conner scored the first collegiate goal of her young career on a shot very similar to Clemensen’s.  After controlling the ball and beating her opponent to the inside, Conner struck a ball from about 25 yards out that sailed into the back of the net giving Mobile a 2-0 lead.

Mobile, which dominated the game from the onset, out-shot Huntingdon 16-1 in the first half.  However, just three minutes into the second-half, Huntingdon scored a goal on only their 2nd shot of the game, cutting the Mobile lead in half.  After Mobile missed an opportunity to extend the lead to 3-1 on a penalty kick in the 56th minute, Huntingdon struck again just one minute later to tie the game at 2-2.

From there, it was all Rams.

Conner scored two more goals in the second half, including a direct free kick from over 40 yards out.  Clemensen then followed that up with two second-half goals of her own, completing the double hat-trick.  Junior Heather Person closed out the scoring for the night with her first goal of the season coming off a combo assist from teammates Rose Clemensen and Kirsten Turner.

“That was the first time we had a hat-trick from one of the girls in a while,” said coach Tittl.  “To have two girls do it in the same game is incredible.  Rose worked very hard for her goals tonight.  Everyone worked hard.”

Mobile improves to 3-2 on the season and will return to action on Friday, September 12 against Lambuth College in Jackson, TN at 4:00 p.m.
