Women’s Soccer Shutout by Bethel College 3-0
McKenzie, Tenn. – Playing their
second game in less than 24 hours and again being without four starters,
the University of Mobile lost to Bethel College 3-0 Saturday afternoon in
McKenzie, TN.
“We had nothing left in the
tank for this game,” said Mobile head coach Uwe Tittl. “The overtime game
yesterday took a lot out of us and we didn’t play with a lot of enthusiasm
today as a result of only playing with 13 players. We need to regroup and
focus on our next match against Spring Hill. They will be gunning for
us.”
After falling behind 1-0 just
two and a half minutes into the game, the Rams refused to give up as they
have done all season. With the wind at their backs, the Rams came out
firing but missed on several key opportunities that included a header by
freshman Kelly Baltieri that sailed just over the crossbar. With 3:24
remaining in the half, the Lady Wildcats extended their lead when forward
Ashley Pittman connected on a short ground shot into the left corner
putting Bethel ahead 2-0 at halftime.
In the second half, Mobile
never got anything going offensively. Playing with just two substitutes,
Mobile allowed one final goal in the 77th minute to put the
game out of reach. Mobile managed just six shots for the game, two that
were on goal.
Goalkeeper Sara Cabaniss made
12 saves on the afternoon in her best effort to keep the Rams in the
game.
UM (3-4) will next be in action
on Tuesday, September 23 when the Rams square off with cross-town rival
Spring Hill. Mobile defeated Spring Hill 1-0 on August 29 in the first
meeting of the season.
