Women's Soccer to Play
Host to Saint Francis
MOBILE,
Ala. – The University of Mobile will play host to the University of Saint
Francis, Saturday, Oct. 4 at 5 p.m. in The Jungle. Mobile (3-7) will be
trying to put an end to a five-game losing streak, while Saint Francis
(5-8) will be looking for their second non-conference win of the season.
UM lost to GCAC rival William Carey 4-1 on Sept. 30
in their last game. Since that game, the Rams have gotten a few players
back from injury and will nearly be at full strength for first time in
over a month.
“We’ve got a few girls back this week and have had a
great week of practice,” said UM head coach Uwe Tittl. “The girls are
excited about playing and ready to go.”
The Cougars, who began their season at 1-4, have
fought back and won four of their last five conference games. The 4-1
conference marks puts Saint Francis atop the Mid Central Conference.
Andrea Wyatt, a sophomore midfielder from Fort Wayne,
Indiana leads the Cougars in scoring with five goals. The Cougars have
used a balanced scoring attack with seven different players getting into
the scoring column. Behind Wyatt with four goals on the season is the
2002 leading goal scorer, senior Meagan McKee.
Senior goalkeeper and NAIA All-American Natalie
Wiegmann has saved many games for the Cougars this season with her
experience in the goal. Wiegmann has made 95 saves in 13 games and
recorded five shutouts on the season.
“We have to stop Erin Zgonc on Saturday to be
successful,” said Tittl. “The offense runs through her. We will stick
with our regular 4-4-2 formation, but we will have to man-mark Zgonc. If
we contain her, we will win the game.”
After starting the year 3-2, the Rams have suffered
through five straight losses. The Saint Francis game will be the first of
five straight home games for the Rams before finishing the season on Oct.
28 at Loyola University.
