Soares beat Kirby Smith 6-2, 6-3; Borges downed Neely Johnson 6-1, 6-0; Boykin cruised versus Beth Gunn 6-1, 6-0; Machen beat Lindsey Berg 6-2, 6-0; Mayra Leal won her second straight match 6-0, 6-0; and Hovden won by default. Rams Roll Versus Montevallo Friday MOBILE, Ala-- The University of Mobile women's tennis team started the weekend by defeating NCAA Div II's University of Montevallo 6-3 at home Friday. The Lady Rams took 2-of-3 in doubles action and then finished off the match victory by taking 4-of-6 in singles play. Josy Soares and Claudia Borges teamed up to win 8-0; Pam Boykin and Mayra Leal fell 8-5; and the duo of Michelle Machen and Camilla Hovden picked up an 8-3 win. In singles action, Soares won 6-1, 6-1; Borges won 6-2, 6-1; Boykin fell 1-6, 4-6; Machen held on for a 6-1, 7-6 (7-4) victory; Leal cruised 6-0, 6-0; and Hovden fell at the end 2-6, 7-6 (9-7). Mobile moves to 6-2 on the season and hosts Gulf Coast Athletic Conference foe Belhaven College at 9:00 am on Saturday. |
