Mobile upsets No. 25-ranked
University of Illinois at Springfield
MOBILE, Ala. -- The University of Mobile women’s
tennis team upset No. 25-ranked University of Illinois at Springfield Friday
afternoon 7-2 in a match played on the University of West Florida campus
in Pensacola, Florida.
With the win, the Rams improve to 8-1 on the season.
As they had done the day before, the Rams picked up two of three doubles
matches with Margot Wallace and Tiffany Williams winning 8-1 on court
number one and Lindsey McDaniel and Cristen Gracey picking up an 8-5
victory on court number three.
In singles action, Wallace and Williams picked up victories on courts
number one and two with each rallying from a one set deficit to pick
up the win. After losing the first set 6-3, Wallace rallied to
win the second set 6-4 and eventually the match with a 7-5 victory in
set number three.
Williams also lost her first set before rallying to win the second set
6-2. With the match tied at one set a piece, Williams faced
three match points before rallying from behind and eventually winning
the third
and deciding set 7-6 (7-2).
McDaniel and Gracey also picked up wins on court number four and five
and Maria Aguirre improved to 9-0 in singles action by winning on court
number six.
Mobile returns to action tomorrow against conference rival Belhaven
College tomorrow morning at home at 9 a.m.
