UM Tennis Takes Down Belhaven

MOBILE, Ala. -- The University of Mobile women's tennis team defeated visiting Belhaven 5-4 Friday morning to move to 10-3 on the season.

Mobile started the match off by gaining a 2-1 advantage in doubles competition. Michelle Machen and Camilla Hovden won their match by default, and Josy Soares and Pam Boykin cruised to an 8-1 victory. The lone doubles loss was a close one, as Lindsey McDaniel and Maria Aguirre fell 8-9 (1-7) to Kirby Smith and Mayra Prado.

As singles play started, it was obvious this would be a close match. Hovden took her match by default and the Lady Rams' #1 Soares, had to drop out, which handed the Lady Blazers a victory.

Aguirre made quick work of Elise Entzenberger 6-1, 6-0 to give the Lady Rams a 4-2 edge and put them one victory away from winning, but the remaining 3 singles matches all went down to the wire. While Boykin and McDaniel were locked in the 3rd sets of their respective matches, Machen came through for the second straight night for Mobile. She won her match 6-3, 6-3 to give Mobile the victory.

It was a good thing, because Boykin ended up dropping her competition 6-2, 2-6, 2-6 and McDaniel fell 6-3, 3-6, 3-6.
