UM Tennis Advances to GCAC Final
NEW ORLEANS, Louis-- The University of Mobile women's tennis team beat Spring Hill College in the semifinals of the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Tournament by a 7-2 margin to advance to Friday's championship match with nationally-ranked Xavier University.
The victory moves Mobile to 11-4 on the season and 2-1 versus the rival Lady Badgers.
After doubles competition, the Lady Rams held a 2-1 lead, but Spring Hill took the No. 1 doubles match in a tiebreaker. The Lady Rams cruised in singles play, winning all but 2 matches in straight sets, and only dropping the No. 4 match up. In fact, the Lady Rams won the No's. 1, 2, 5, and 6 singles matches by a combined 48-12 margin.
The squad will enter the championship match Friday at 3:15 versus Xavier with a league-high 5 tournament championships, including last seasons'. A match up with Xavier would've looked bleak after March 17th, as the Gold Nuggets came to Mobile and took the match 9-0. But, things change and on April 3rd, the Lady Rams showed they have closed the gap, dropping a hard-fought 4-5 decision to the Gold Nuggets on the road.
