Letter From the Director
Mission The mission of the Center for Performing Arts (CPA) is to train, develop and educate the next generation of music leaders. For over 40 years, UM musicians have impacted our world through their musical skill and committed lives as recording and concert artists, music educators, church musicians, and missionaries. Established in 2003 with only 45 music majors, the Center for Performing Arts has become one of the fastest growing programs in the nation, now totaling 250 majors and minors! Performance The performance schedule of the CPA students and faculty is extremely demanding and rewarding as 21 musical ensembles toured throughout the United States and abroad this past year. Picture yourself performing at venues ranging from a small church in Alabama to the White House in Washington, D.C., a U.S. military base in Germany, and aboard a cruise ship on the Mediterranean! As a student in the Center for Performing Arts, you'll be a part of events such as the annual Christmas Spectacular, which has become the event of the season in Mobile, as well as the StarLight outdoor music festival, which has featured artists such as Ricky Skaggs, Sandi Patty, and 4Him. If theatre is your passion, you'll want to be a part of the Upper Room Dinner Theatre, which plays to 'standing room only' for every production. Opportunity UM's Center for Performing Arts is a place of opportunity where many students are preparing for church-related vocations. In addition to the great teaching tradition of 'classic literature,' the CPA faculty embrace the music of 'praise and worship,' so relevant to today's culture. This eclectic training at the University of Mobile offers unlimited opportunities and career advantages for students. Each year the Center for Performing Arts provides a limited number of music scholarships to students demonstrating considerable achievement and tremendous potential for further development in performance. These scholarships are given on the basis of Scholarship Auditions. If you would like to schedule an appointment to audition, please email us at cpaauditions@mail.umobile.edu or call 251. 442.2320 or 1.800.WIN RAMS extension 2320. If you desire a course of study that prepares you to make a difference in today's culture, UM is for you! The Center for Performing Arts is more than a department within a university. The CPA is a place for you to develop relationships with students and teachers who desire to complement and encourage your conquest in life! The course of study is music - the four-year journey is the real education! Dr. Roger Breland Executive Director and Dean, |
