Welcome to the Center for Performing Arts Theatre Department. Building sets, staging shows, memorizing scripts, applying stage make-up, costuming, running lights and sound, and building strong friendships are just a few things that describe a typical day in the Theatre Department. With three major productions every year, theatre majors have ample opportunities to get involved and learn hands-on what to expect in their future careers.

Current jobs held by our theatre alumni include: Cruise ship performer, Disney World entertainer, Shakespeare Festivals, Broadway shows, Film Production, Children's ministries, Theatre professor, Mall display designer, Pageant director, Drama teacher, Film and TV actor, and much more.

“Some people thrive on the attention, on being in the spotlight. They get in front of an audience, there’s an adrenaline rush, and they just love it. Others want to be behind the lights, making it happen, being creative. They love the power of directing, of creating a world on stage that communicates to an audience,” says Dianne Murphree, Professor of Theatre. The Theatre Department gives the opportunity for the theatre students to get involved in all aspect of production, including: Acting, Directing, Lighting, Make-up, Set construction, Costuming, and Props.
