Church Ministry and Service Grants
To be eligible to continue receiving this grant, a student must complete the following process prior to the beginning of each academic year:
-
Continue to be an active member of a Southern Baptist church
-
Maintain an overall GPA of at least 2.0
-
Declare a major in Christian Studies (the student may carry a double major; all CMG/CSG recipients will be assigned a Christian Studies advisor) or declare a major in music with the intention of entering a church-related vocation
-
Maintain a lifestyle appropriate to Christian ministry both on and off campus
-
Join and attend meetings of appropriate on-campus professional organizations, such as the Ministerial Association and/or the International Missions Fellowship
-
Complete an application for renewal each year at the CMG/CSG interview (This renewal form will be provided for you at the interview.)
-
Secure a place of regular service, paid or volunteer, in a Southern Baptist church
-
Submit, at the CMG/CSG interview, a letter from a ministry-level supervisor in the church where service was performed indicating how the student has served, evaluating his/her potential for vocational ministry, and recommending extension of the grant
-
A ministry-level supervisor in the church must provide a neatly-typed, one-page statement indicating how the student has progressed toward his/her ministry goal in the previous year
-
Receive a recommendation for extension from a Board of Regents committee which will interview each applicant and evaluate the student’s portfolio. The Regents committee may also consider students with non-traditional ministry goals, deciding on a case-by-case basis whether the student qualifies for CMG/CSG
-
Must enroll as a full-time student.
A portfolio must be filed each year no later than March 1 to facilitate handling by the Office of Financial Aid. Failure to meet published requirements and/or deadlines will result in the loss of eligibility for the CMG/CSG. The student is responsible for assuring that his/her portfolio is in order on or before March 1 of each year, and attending the CMG/CSG interview. Dates for the interview will be announced.
