International Club
The purpose of the International Club is to promote
the appreciation and understanding of international cultures and
customs. Any student at the University who is interested in furthering
his knowledge of international cultures and customs may be a member
of this organziation. There are no dues.
The club has several projects, one of which is the
Study Travel Scholarship Fund which will make available for language
students to travel abroad. The club holds various fundraisers during
the year to earn money to support the scholarship. We also participate
with the International Students Committee to welcome and assist
students from other nations who are enrolled at UM and to help
them feel more at home here. The International Club also sponsors
the booth representing Spain at the International Festival held
in the Fall. A Christmas party was held at which members learned
what Christmas is like in other countries. Traditional Christmas
food from Mexico and Germany was served. Other meetings featured
programs such as information presented by Mrs. Stovall on the Day
of the Dead celebration in Mexico.
This Spring, members have been invited to attend
the foreign films at the Fairhope Film Series. On April 15, there
will be a supper, with a special menu, at 5:00 p.m. in the cafeteria.
Afterwards, members will see a Spanish movie in Fairhope. Students
wishing to join the International Club should come by office 207B
in Weaver Hall and pick up an application form. Contact Mrs. Wall
at 442-2336, or email nancywall@free.umobile.edu.
