Overview of Club:
The Public Relations Student Society (PRSS) is an organization that you can be actively involved in at the University of Mobile. It is an opportunity for you to gain real world experience in public relations and other related career fields, as well as network with professionals and other students. PRSS is the student branch of the Public Relations Council of Alabama (PRCA). PRCA is the state’s largest operating and largest group of public relations practitioners. The professional chapters are available in six metropolitan area: Auburn/Opelika, Birmingham, Huntsville, Mobile, Montgomery and Tuscaloosa. Each of these chapters supports the efforts of student chapters at colleges and universities in each area. The statewide organization, which consists of over 500 members, joins with members of sister organizations in Louisiana, Mississippi and Northwest Florida to form the 900-plus-member Southern Public Relations Federation (SPRF).

Q’s and A’s:

Can I still be a member even if I am not a Communications major?
Sure. You do not have to be a communication major to be involved in PRSS. We welcome anyone who is interested in public relations or any type of communication interest.

Will it cost me anything to be involved in PRSS?
There are annual dues of $25 ($25 to PRCA and $10 to PRSS). Besides dues, PRSS shouldn’t cost you anything more than you want it to cost you. Besides, anything you decide to put towards PRSS will be a contribution to your future.

How often will meetings be held?
Meetings are generally held once a month, though some additional meetings may need to be scheduled. Guest speakers are usually scheduled to come ahead of time so you will know in advance if an extra meeting will be held.

What if I cannot attend the meetings due to class scheduling, work scheduling or other circumstances?
Don’t let that stop you from joining. We communicate via email to keep our members updated on what is going on. Also, you may find that some of the extra meetings that will be planned will better fit your schedule.
