University of Mobile Announces
Top Honors, Awards Diplomas
On May 2, approximately 400 University of Mobile graduates were awarded master’s, bachelor’s and associate degrees during commencement exercises at the Mobile Civic Center.Commencement speaker Lt. Gen. Robert F. Foley, president of the Marion Military Institute and Congressional Medal of Honor recipient, spoke to graduates about the value of freedom.
University of Mobile President Dr. Mark Foley challenged the graduates to be change agents in the work place. He said, “You will be judged by your actions. It will be another who says of you—that man, that woman, made a difference in this place. It’s not always what you say, but what you do.” Dr. Foley charged the graduates to, “Go change the world. When I see you in the future, I will ask you how you are doing it, and I look forward to the answer.”
During graduation, top honors were awarded to 16 outstanding graduates.

Milissa Colvin of Jackson, Ala., received the Annie Boyd Parker Weaver
Auxiliary Award for the female senior who best exemplifies the outstanding
qualities of character, leadership and service. Colvin, who graduated
with a bachelor of science in accounting, also received the Alumni
Award, William K. Weaver Honorary Fellows Undergraduate Award, School
of Business Award and area award in accounting. |

 Benjamin Allen Brenner of Mobile, Ala., received
the University of Mobile Regents Award for the male senior who best
exemplifies the outstanding qualities of character, leadership and
service. Brenner graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor of arts
degree in humanities and English. He also received the area award
in humanities. |

 Norman
Hart Bray of Robertsdale, Ala., received the President’s Leadership
Award presented to the non-traditional-age student who best exemplifies
both Christian leadership and academic excellence. Bray graduated
cum laude with a bachelor of science degree in organizational administration
and leadership. |

David Chad Lawrence of Monroeville, Ala., honors, master of business
administration. Lawrence also received the School of Business MBA

The
university's highest honor, the H. Austill Pharr Award, was presented
to Aaron Gavin McLeod of Grand Bay, Ala. He was selected by the university
faculty as the senior who best exemplifies the attainment of education
values consonant with the purpose and objective of the institution.
McLeod, who graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor of arts in
humanities, also received the Alumni Award in recognition of his
4.0 gpa. The University of Mobile Alumni Award is presented to students with the highest grade point average in the bachelor's and associate degree programs. Those who received the Alumni Award for having a perfect 4.0 grade point average while at UM, in addition to McLeod, Colvin, Wilkerson and Hill, were Christine Elizabeth Adams of Bay Minette, Ala., magna cum laude, associate degree in nursing; Sandra L.
