UM Opera Workshop Presents "Amahl and the Night Visitors" The University of Mobile Opera Workshop will present “Amahl and the Night Visitors” under the direction of Melba Brown, with accompaniment by the UM Orchestra. “Amahl” is an opera in one act by Gian Carlo Menotti. The show will be presented Friday, Dec. 2 at 7 p.m and Saturday, Dec. 3 at 2 p.m.at Government Street Baptist Church. Tickets for either showing are $15 for adult and $10 for students. The opera tells the story of a young crippled boy named Amahl who meets the Magi as they travel to see the infant Jesus. His life is changed profoundly by the meeting and the circumstances that come of it. Starring in the show this year are Aubrey McGinnis as Amahl’s mother, Dayna Schaumann as Amahl, Jordan Squires as King Kaspar, Jordan Van Matre as King Melchior, Jason O’Neal as King Balthazar and Luke Veazey as the page. The understudies are Chase Byrd for King Melchior and Brandon Davis for King Balthazar. The chorus of shepherds and villagers includes Brittany Bunton, Meagen Burns, Chase Byrd, Brandon Davis, Melody Duncan, Nikki Ellis, Daniel Gregory, Joe Hernandez, Matthew Hockman, Randy Howe, Ashley Hughes, Philip Jewell, Sarah Lake, Maeghan Laxton, Shanna Meadows, Rebekah Metts, Patrick Peake, Valerie Rivers, Annel Robayna, Dorothy Smith, Stephanie Smith and Leslie West.
