UM Provides Leadership on City of Mobile Transition Team
Dr. Robert Schaefer, Chair of the UM Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences and Professor of Political Science, has been named to the transition team for Mobile’s new mayor, Sam Jones. Several UM faculty and staff members are also part of the process. Schaefer is one of four associate managers charged with coordinating various task forces to identify opportunities for the city to move forward, recommend strategies for capitalizing on opportunities, identifying a talent pool of individuals with specialized expertise, and mobilizing citizens interested, willing and able to move the city forward. “It is a challenging opportunity to work with former Mayor Mike Dow, Ann Bedsole, and many other civic leaders, to assist the new administration shape a plan for Mobile's future. I am especially pleased that my colleagues at the University of Mobile are part of this process.” Schaefer said. Schaefer nominated several UM faculty and staff members to serve as advisors for various subcommittees. Dr. Svetlana Khokholva, Assistant Professor of English, will advise the Education and Workforce Development subcommittee; Dr. Harry Cole, Associate Professor of English, will advise the Arts, Culture and Recreation subcommittee; Dr. Peter Kingsford, Dean of the School of Education, will advise the Youth and Substance Abuse subcommittee; and Scott Dalgety, Senior Director, Applications Group, will advise the Technology and Infrastructure subcommittee.
