UM Vocal Ensemble To Sing
At White House

The University of Mobile’s elite vocal ensemble, VOICES of Mobile, will sing at the White House as part of “Christmas at the White House” on Dec. 21. They will sing for an hour and a half surrounded by beautiful Christmas lights, trees and decorations.

The 15-member vocal group from UM’s Center for Performing Arts is directed by Dr. Al Miller, senior academic fellow and assistant professor of music at the university.

“We are certainly excited about this wonderful opportunity to represent the great state of Alabama and the University of Mobile in our nation’s capitol and in the White House, especially at Christmas,” said Miller. “Mostly, we are thrilled to communicate in life and song the motto by which we teach and exist at the University of Mobile’s Center for Performing Arts, ‘Honor Him with our Lives and Praise Him with our Voices.’”

VOICES will also sing at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C. where injured American soldiers are currently being treated. “It is our desire to bring some southern hospitality from Alabama to Washington, D.C.,” Miller said.

The ensemble will tour the Capitol and the Pentagon in addition to the performance.

Members of VOICES include James Berrian, Jaime Branham, Lydia Bru, Kourtney Campbell, Kristen Constantine, Brandon Davis, Ashley Duncan, Nikki Ellis, Bethany Luzader, Phil Mathis, Jamal Trimble, Aaron Williamson, Brandi Withrow, Lee Worley and Nick Yarborough.

The group represents the University of Mobile Center for Performing Arts in churches, schools and civic events throughout the United States and abroad.

The University of Mobile is a Baptist-affiliated university located in Mobile, Ala.
