It's Back to School for UM Students

The 2006 school year gets under way at the University of Mobile with move-in for residential students on Saturday, Aug. 12. That morning, students will move into campus residences including UM’s brand new, 151-bed, $5.8 million residence hall North Hall, which will house freshmen and sophomore women.

Ram Rush, the university’s freshman orientation program, will also begin on Saturday, Aug. 12, and will involve students in activities like Project Serve, a freshmen community service project; and The Walk.

Project Serve will occur Monday, Aug. 14, as members of UM’s freshmen class provide service to the Mobile community by repairing hurricane damage, rebuilding, painting, cleaning, organizing, doing yard work, and more, at sites like the Mobile Baptist Associational Office, Bay Area Food Bank, Shalom Baptist Church, Home of Grace for Women, Shiloh Baptist Church, Korean Baptist Church of Mobile, International Seamen’s Center and New Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church.

The university’s freshmen tradition, The Walk, will occur Tuesday, Aug. 15 at 5 p.m. Freshmen will line up by the cafeteria according to school at 4: 30 p.m. and be led by their school’s dean at to Weaver Auditorium, where they’ll join upperclassmen to hear UM President Dr. Mark Foley briefly address their class.

Registration and academic advisement continue at the university through Mon., Aug. 14 and Tue., Aug. 15. Classes begin Wed., Aug. 16, at 8 a.m.

The University of Mobile is a private university affiliated with the Alabama Baptist State Convention, with students enrolled in undergraduate and graduate programs in the College of Arts and Sciences, School of Business, School of Christian Studies, School of Education, School of Nursing and Center for Adult Programs.
