Presents
Saviour
with Orchestra, Choir, Soloists

“Saviour,” a modern oratorio presented by the University of Mobile Singers, soloists and orchestra, will be presented Tuesday, Sept. 26 at Dauphin Way Baptist Church in Mobile.

The free concert will begin at 7 p.m. and is under the direction of Dr. Al Miller, senior academic fellow and assistant professor of music at the University of Mobile. Saviour, a 60-minute musical composition for voices and orchestra, tells a sacred story of God’s passion for His people.

“Saviour begins with a glorious, orchestral ‘Creation Overture’ and proceeds to a lively choral selection entitled ‘In the Beginning was the Word and the Word was God.’ The work continues with a beautiful, haunting oboe solo segue to the song ‘My Heart Belongs to You,’ in which the text and music eloquently display the relationship between God and Adam,” explained Miller.

“Throughout the work, God’s passion for His people is displayed musically in oratorio form with soloists, choir and orchestra. The struggle between good and evil is evident in this musical expression. Ultimately, God offers redemption for man’s struggle with the life, death and resurrection of His son, Jesus,” Miller said.

Saviour is a modern oratorio for full chorus, eight University of Mobile student soloists, and an orchestra composed of UM students and guest musicians, Miller said. The work is composed by Greg Nelson and Bob Farrell, arranged by David Hamilton with choral settings and orchestration by Ronn Huff.
