August 2, 2007 Fall Semester Begins with Ram Rush The 2007-08 school year gets under way at the University of Mobile with move-in for residential students on Saturday, Aug. 11, beginning at 8 a.m. Ram Rush, the university’s freshman orientation program, will also begin the same day with a barbecue dinner on the lawn as new students meet their RamFams, or Ram Family groups led by upperclassmen. Activities continue Sunday, Aug. 12, with a 10 a.m. worship service in Weaver Auditorium, followed by lunch at the homes of various faculty members. A drive-in movie on campus at 7 p.m. caps off the day’s events. Academic advisement and registration will be held Monday and Tuesday, Aug. 13 and 14, for all students. New student orientation will be held Monday, Aug. 13. Evening activities include The Gong Show with performances by student groups in Weaver Auditorium, and “Sundaes on Monday” with ice cream sundaes at The Commons on campus. The UM Expo from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 14, will be held in Pharr Gym. The event provides new and returning students opportunities to learn about student organizations and opportunities for involvement. At 6:30 p.m., new students will line up for “The Walk,” a freshman tradition. Students will process to Weaver Auditorium, following the dean of each school in the university, where they will join upperclassmen to hear an address by UM President Dr. Mark Foley. Classes begin Wed., Aug. 15, at 8 a.m. for traditional students. Classes begin Monday, Aug. 13, for students in the Center for Adult Programs.
