University of Mobile Center for Performing Arts Presents “Saviour” Sept. 27

“Saviour,” a modern oratorio presented by the University of Mobile Singers, soloists and orchestra, will be presented Thursday, Sept. 27 at Dauphin Way Baptist Church in Mobile.

The free concert will begin at 7 p.m. and is under the direction of Dr. Al Miller, associate dean, Center for Performing Arts and assistant professor of music at the University of Mobile. Saviour, a 60-minute musical composition for voices and orchestra, tells a sacred story of God’s passion for His people.

“Throughout the work, God’s passion for His people is displayed musically in oratorio form with soloists, choir and orchestra. The struggle between good and evil is evident in this musical expression. Ultimately, God offers redemption for man’s struggle with the life, death and resurrection of His son, Jesus,” Miller said.

Saviour is a modern oratorio for full chorus, eight University of Mobile student soloists, and an orchestra composed of UM students, Miller said. The work is composed by Greg Nelson and Bob Farrell, arranged by David Hamilton with choral settings and orchestration by Ronn Huff.
