Awards $50,000 to The University of Mobile has received a $50,000 grant from The Crampton Trust for expansion and renovation of the Weaver Hall foyer, according to Marty Vignes, executive director of development at the university. The project will extend the foyer entrance by 14 feet and add approximately 400 square feet to the area. Vignes said the expansion will allow the university to use the lobby for receptions and event registration. The project entails enclosing the covered front porch area with beveled glass doors and windows. Constructed in 1963, William K. Weaver Hall is the university’s first building and houses administrative and faculty offices and classrooms. In 2000 the original flat roof was replaced with a hipped roof, portico and cupola. The renovation is expected to be complete before fall semester classes begin on Aug. 24, according to Vicki Burgin, director of institutional operations. The Crampton Trust, a foundation established through the estate of Katherine
Crampton Cochrane, awards grants in the areas of education, civics and
humanities in southwest Alabama. |
