UM Professor’s Book
A book co-authored by University of Mobile professor Dr. William Carroll and his son, Will Carroll, was cited in the Mitchell Report which focused on the use of performance enhancing drugs in Major League Baseball. The 311-page report by a team of investigators led by former Sen. George Mitchell was released Thursday, Dec. 13, 2007 and immediately became a top national news story. It identifies active players as using performance enhancing drugs, and includes recommendations designed to rid Major League Baseball of the use of such drugs.
Page 129 of the Mitchell Report contains a reference to “The Juice: The Real Story of Baseball’s Drug Problems,” a 2005 book written by Dr. Carroll and his son. The reference discusses the use of flaxseed oil as a delivery agent for steroids. “The Juice” focuses on the use of steroids and other performance-enhancing drugs by athletes, testing procedures, legal issues, and interviews with professional players as well as many others. Dr. Carroll is professor of human performance and exercise science and director of the University of Mobile athletic education training program. Last modified :
