Recital Features Music
Inspired by Shakespeare

The University of Mobile Center for Performing Arts will present “Measure for Measure: Music Inspired by the Works of William Shakespeare.” Dr. Patrick Jacobs, baritone, and Carol Evers, pianist, will perform at the free recital on Tuesday, Jan. 15 at 7 p.m. in Moorer Auditorium on the University of Mobile campus.

The program features operatic arias from Verdi’s Otello and Falstaff, Gounod’s Romeo et Juliette, Thomas’ Hamlet, and Britten’s The Rape of Lucretia. In addition, there are Shakespearian texts set to the music of Franz Schubert, Robert Schumann, Gerald Finzi and Roger Quilter.

Jacobs is assistant professor of music at the University of Mobile and director of the UM Opera Workshop. He holds a bachelor of music in vocal performance from Loyola University New Orleans; a master of music in vocal performance from the University of Cincinnati, College-Conservatory of Music; and a doctorate of music in vocal performance from the State University of New York at Stony Brook.

He has recently performed as a soloist with Mobile Opera, New Orleans Opera, Fresno Grand Opera, and is currently engaged to be in residence this summer with Light Opera Oklahoma.

Evers is adjunct instructor of piano and accompanist at the University of Mobile. She is also an active member of the Mobile Piano Ensemble and Mobile Music Teachers Association.
