Miss University of Mobile Pageant
to be Held;
Preliminary for Miss America
Five young women will compete for the title of Miss University of Mobile on Saturday, Jan. 31 at 7 p.m. at the University of Mobile in the Weaver Auditorium. The young lady who wins will compete in the Miss Alabama pageant, a preliminary that leads to the 2009 Miss America pageant.
Tickets for the event are $5 for UM students and $10 for adults and can be purchased in advanced in the Campus Affairs Office or at the door. Children under 12 will be admitted for free. To obtain advance tickets or for more information about the Miss University of Mobile 2009 pageant, contact Neal Ledbetter, UM’s spiritual development director, at 251-442-2429.
Contestants will be judged in talent, interview, evening gown, and swimsuit. Over $15,000 in scholarship money and prizes will be awarded to the winner and runners-up. Keri Campbell, a 1998 graduate of the University of Mobile and former Miss UM, will serve as emcee for the event. The theme of the pageant will be called “That Thing Called Love.”
Miss University of Mobile serves as the official hostess of the university. Her responsibilities include participation in alumni activities, homecoming, dedications, receptions, and various community and student events.
Competing for the title of Miss University of Mobile 2009 are:
Lauren Edalgo of Cordele, Ga., a freshman musical theatre major. She is the daughter of Mike and Cindi Edalgo. She will perform a vocal number.
Paige McCauley of Montgomery, Ala., a freshman elementary education major. She is the daughter of Yvonne McCauley and the late Michael McCauley. She will perform an instrumental piece on clarinet.
Catherine Odom of St. Stephens, Ala., a junior music education major. She is the
daughter of Frankie and Cathy Odom. She will be performing an instrumental piece on
piano.
Kylie Watkins of Trussville, Ala., a sophomore elementary education major. She is the daughter of Tom and Ann Watkins. She will perform an instrumental piece on trumpet.
Jessica Williams of Baker, Fla., a junior early childhood/ elementary education major. She is the daughter of Darren and Gina Williams. She will perform a vocal number.
