University of Mobile Symphony Presents ‘A Night of Mozart’ 

The Center of Performing Arts at the University of Mobile will present “A Night of Mozart” Thursday, Feb. 5 at the Cathedral of Immaculate Conception, 2 South Claiborne St. in downtown Mobile.  

The musical event will feature the University of Mobile Symphony, Chamber Singers, and solos by professors and students. The program begins at 7:30 p.m. and admission is free. The University of Mobile Chamber Singers, under the direction of Assistant Professor of Music Duane Plash, will perform the “Mozart Requiem,” Mozart’s last and most popular composition. Feature soloists will be UM professors Dr. Allanda Small, Dr. Mihaela Buhaiciuc, and Dr. Patrick Jacobs, and UM student Peter Lake. Enen Yu, adjunct instructor of violin, is concert master. 

Small has been a featured soloist with the University of Southern Mississippi and the Meistersingers of Hattiesburg, Miss. Buhaiciuc recently performed a recital at Carnegie Hall in New York City. Jacobs’ credits include leading roles with the Mobile Opera, New Orleans Opera, Light Opera Oklahoma, and various other opera companies. Lake  performed in the UM Opera Theatre’s production of “The Magic Flute” and the Mobile Opera’s “Gianni Schicchi.” 

Dr. Robert Holm, associate professor of music at the University of South Alabama, will perform a Mozart piano concerto accompanied by the University of Mobile Symphony under the direction of Randy Davis, assistant professor of music at the University of Mobile.
