Mission Trips, Concerts, Spiritual Awakening Conference, Internationally Known Speakers, Mission trips, Christian concerts, lectures by internationally known speakers, Bible studies and a campus conference focusing on spiritual awakening are among the many events planned for the 2006-07 academic year at the University of Mobile. The School of Christian Studies has scheduled missions trips through its University Missions program. Missions trips are being planned for southeast Asia, Brazil, Australia, Greece, Norway, Niger, Wales and Siberia. Trips are led by School of Christian Studies faculty and are open to church groups and individuals in addition to students. Students may earn college credit while building chapels, leading Vacation Bible School, conducting prayer walks, and ministering to the physical and spiritual needs of people in an international setting. Small-group Bible studies and campus-wide “True Spin” Bible study will be ongoing, as well as leadership classes with a Christian worldview focus. A concert by Bethany Dillon, a 2006 nominee for the Gospel Music Association’s Female Vocalist of the Year, will be held Sept. 9. UM Campus Ministries will present “The Awakening” on Sept. 15-16, a conference for students focusing on missions, evangelism and spiritual awakening. Dr. Wade Akins, author of “Be a 24/7 Christian,” will lead the conference and Seraph, a Christian band from Mobile, will perform. On October 5-6, a group of students and faculty will attend the Christian leadership conference, Catalyst, in Atlanta. “Urban Plunge” inner city mission trips are scheduled for Nov. 2-5 for Birmingham and Montgomery, Ala.; New Orleans, La.; Charlotte, N.C.; Pensacola, and Tallahassee, Fla., and in Mississippi. Campus Ministries will again lead a month-long summer backpacking trip across Europe with the goal of spreading the gospel among students staying at youth hostels. Southern Baptist evangelist Voddie Bauchum will address students, faculty and staff on Jan. 24. Philip Yancey, best-selling Christian author whose books have sold over 14 million copies, will speak on March 28.
