Wingard to Present Lecture for Area Music Educators

The University of Mobile Summer Music Camp invites area music educators to a lecture by Nancy Whatley Wingard, an adjunct professor of music at Birmingham Southern College, on Tuesday, June 13. The lecture on “Pedagogical Methods from the Master Piano Teachers” will be held from 1:30-2:30 p.m. at Martin Hall on the University of Mobile campus. Admission is $5 at the door.
Wingard is a featured artist during the week-long summer music camp for youth. She holds a bachelor of music degree in piano performance from Birmingham Southern College, where she has taught piano and music theory with the Conservatory of Music.

Wingard has served the Alabama Music Teachers Association as composition chair, state clinician, vice president and president. She is the recipient of the Teacher of the Year Award at the 2005 AMTA conference. She is a member of the Birmingham Metro Music Forum and is a former president of the Birmingham Music Teachers Association. She is also a member of the Birmingham Piano Quartet.

During the UM Summer Music Camp, Wingard will conduct piano master classes for senior campers in grades 8-12. She will give lectures Monday though Thursday on the “Parallels Between Art and Music.” She will use slides and perform music as she teaches about the Baroque, Classic, Romantic and Contemporary eras.
