High School Students Can Earn College Credit in Early Enrollment Program at University of Mobile The University of Mobile is offering an Early Enrollment Program for high school students with free tuition for one college course and a reduced price for additional courses. Students who will be entering their junior or senior years in fall 2008 may be eligible for the Early Enrollment Program. Students must have a recommendation from a teacher, guidance counselor or principal; a minimum ACT score of 21; an unweighted grade point average of 2.75; and provide an official high school transcript. The introductory college program begins this summer semester 2008, and students may enroll in the program during summer, fall or spring semesters. Students who are accepted into the Early Enrollment Program may enroll in one college course with free tuition, and may take additional courses at a special price of just $500 per course. Freshman classes such as English, finite math, western civilization, physical science, microcomputer applications and intermediate algebra are being offered during short summer terms. Summer terms are May 13-June 6, June 9-July 3, and July 7-July 30. “Whether you’re planning to enroll after high school graduation at the University of Mobile or at another college, you can take core college freshman classes now that are required by most universities,” said Kim Leousis, vice president for enrollment services at UM. She said rising high school juniors and seniors who enroll in the short summer terms have an advantage of getting a head start on their college experience. “Summer is usually more relaxed, with smaller classes and shorter sessions. This gives high school students a chance to take college classes and become accustomed to the expectations of college professors,” Leousis said.
